Salted Caramel Popcorn

April 24, 2012

This was going to be my Bake Sale item, until I made it and discovered that it is S.T.I.C.K.Y. Like, so sticky you have to wash your hands after every bite. Not cool.

Unfortunately, my grand plan of making something a little different for the Bake Sale, is not going to happen. I thought this salted caramel popcorn would be excellent, but my dream (yes, my dreams include making perfectly delicious caramel popcorn) died once I realized that even though the whole mixture cools and gets less hot, it’s doesn’t get less sticky. This popcorn really reminded me of rice krispy treats, when you mix the marshmallows and butter with the rice krispies… it looks like cob webs. You know what I mean? Anyways, you can’t really pack this down to little squares. Actually, I guess you could, but “salted caramel popcorn squares” were not part of my dream. LOOSE pieces of salted caramel popcorn were in my dream. Just like the ones pictured in the recipe link. I omitted the pretzel M&M’s (for fear that Matt wouldn’t come near this snack/dessert/dinner(?!)) if I left them in.

I don’t think I’ll be attempting this recipe again, but if YOU do, you should include some more goodies like the pretzel M&M’s (the original recipe calls for)… maybe even a broken up candy bar like TWIX or Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups… melted peanut butter and chocolate never hurt anyone (except for Matt).

Back to the drawing board for my bake sale item. I don’t want to be boring, but I don’t want to make a common item like cupcakes or cake pops. If you have any ideas, I welcome them!!

Though it’s stick and wasn’t what you wanted, is it good? It looks so delicious on my computer screen, I had to grab a tissue for my drool!
